The work of Marie Vermeulen-Breedt spans four decades.She obtained a Fine Art Degree from Unisa in 1976 .Her final practical oilpainting was submitted and still forms part of the Schlesinger collection. She immediately went to London to study Portraiture under Kingsley Sutton as well as George Israels (, grandson of the famous Isaac Israels.)both from the prestigious Royal Academy of Art in London. Marie Married in 1976 and whilst living on the farm still persued her obsession with art.
Today she is regarded as a Master Artist with her work in collections such as -Absa, The Reserve Bank, Sanlam, Richemond , Rupert Family collection, Steinhoffs ,all Universities especially portraits in the University of Pretoria where the deans as well as Vice Chancellors were all painted by her. She must be only one out of a few artists who can say that HerMajesty ,Queen Elizabeth2 as well as Mr Nelson Mandela and King Goodwill Zwelithini, was painted by her. She has taken part in Numerous group exhibitions and has given 5 - one man exhibitions in RSA as well as in Carmel at the The New Masters Gallery in California. Her work is regarded as investment art and has an excellent resale potential for a living artist.
Her work is in permanent collections such as All the banks , also investment houses such as Stanlib, Insurance companies in Irving USA, numerous public as well as private collections. The paintings are collectors items and even the frames are designed by her and custom made. Her Genre include portraits, figure studies,nudes,still- lives, interiors, landscapes, equine studies of racehorses, studies of the farm, townscapes, and garden scenes. Her audience spans 3 continents being USA, AFRICA AND EUROPE.From the editor of the Wall Street Journal, to Mr Jim Davisons Construction company, From The Minnesota Baseball Club to The Saratoga Polo Club in New York. Her portraits always hang with great acclaim -Top 5 in The Sanlam Portrait Competition,top 300 in the BPportrait Awards. She launched a print and Ghiclee part of her ouvre-and has done sculpture in Bronze. Recently she was asked to do a series of Childrens books that will be launched in July 2017.A series of 4 different wildlife, conservation and Health books are to be launched. Based in Bapsfontein and George there are a few agents with the exclusive right to stock her work of which John West Art Galleries are of the most prominent.
Her pupils such as Jaco Van Schalkwyk are seasoned international Artists taking part in exhibitions with Mr William Kentridge in Beijing, Wangdon, Bali , Vietnam, Germany, NewYork and London.
